The People’s Embassy of Belarus in Finland
Email: [email protected]
The People’s Embassy in Finland was created by the Belarusian diaspora based on the Association of Belarusians in Finland (Suomen valkovenälästen järjestö ry).
The results of the presidential elections held in Belarus on the 9th of August 2020 with gross violations and falsifications were not recognized by the EU member states, the USA, Great Britain, Canada, and most other countries. Even more importantly, the results of the elections were not recognized by the Belarusian people.
Exit polls conducted in Helsinki confirmed the clear support of Belarusians in Finland for Svetlana Tikhanovskaya with 89,19% of the vote and revealed that Lukashenko received only 4,32% of the vote. Falsification of the election results, extreme massive violence, and repressions perpetrated by Lukashenka’s regime against peaceful protesters, and a human rights crisis in Belarus made Belarusians in Finland united in their intention to support democratic changes in Belarus.
We announce the creation of the People’s Embassy in Finland to protect the rights and interests of Belarusian citizens abroad, as well as represent the interests of the democratic Belarus.
The decision to create the People’s Embassy in Finland was made by the representatives of the Belarusian diaspora in Finland on the basis of the resolution of the World Congress of Belarusians and supported by the National Leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and the People’s Anti-Crisis Management.
The main functions of the People’s Embassy:
- Informing the public about the situation in Belarus.
- Establishing and maintaining contacts with Finnish government bodies, public associations, trade unions, business, scientific and cultural circles abroad.
- Assistance to Belarusian citizens forced to leave the country.
The creation of the People’s Embassies was approved by the World Congress of Belarusians convened on October 31 – November 1, 2020, and is reflected in its Resolution (https://belaruscongress.org/resolution).
